PHILANTHROPY SUPPORTING CONSERVATION AT KARIEGA
Kariega Game Reserve is a malaria-free private game reserve in South Africa’s Eastern Cape on the ever-popular Garden Route. Thanks to a generous philanthropic donation by the Ferguson family in the UK, the reserve will be expanding its footprint significantly to 11,500 hectares in the Bushmans River valley. This additional 1,500 hectares of pristine wilderness will be fully incorporated into the reserve by June 2022, including approximately 25 kilometres of precious tidal river estuary. The range expansion provides additional carrying capacity for elephant, white and black rhino, as well as additional apex predators such as critically endangered cheetah and a second pride of lion. Their generosity will have long term legacy on the conservation of biodiversity of flora and fauna in the eastern Cape.
