Guests at Babylonstoren are invited to step back in time with their Soetmelksvlei 19th century farmyard experience.

Launched mid-2024, this is a unique farmyard experience set in the late 19th century Soetmelksvlei (meaning sweet milk meadow) which celebrates an era when all of life’s necessities were crafted by hand.

Guests can expect a treasure trove of historical curiosities, a place where history boffs and artisanal handcrafters are equally inspired, whilst the farm animals and play areas ensure the younger ones have an equally memorable time.

Daily farmyard activities include milking, cream separation, wheat milling, egg collection, ox wagon rides, carpentry, ironmongery, and tending to the vegetable garden and orchards where European and African heritage varieties are grown.  Visitors are encouraged to interact with master craftspeople as they go about their daily chores.

This historical, immersive experience is set on the slopes of Simonsberg, a short shuttle ride from Babylonstoren.

It’s a great place to enjoy a wholesome meal at the Old Stables Restaurant, which also has outdoor seating with a view of their outdoor children’s play area, and have a wander through the Jonkershuis Farm Shop.
